Question About Silver Eagle Airtites...

Really quick question as I want to order some silver eagles to add to my collection. I want to get airtites but when I search on ebay I obviously get tons of different sellers selling at different quantities/prices. Just wanted to know is there any major differences in them? Are some of them more cheaply made than others? Do the ones with the ring inserts provide better protection?

There's just a huge range and I see people selling 5 for $8 and then others selling 25 for $15, so it got me wondering. So is there any difference or am I just overly complicating this?

    Thanks!

  3. There are imitations out there so be sure to buy genuine airtites (red packaging with the rings; orange packaging for direct fit). For my raw ASEs, I now use Intercept Shield holders to delay toning. So far, so good and there is no mistaking them from other holders. TC

Rings or no rings - that's up to your personal preference. As for best prices - jpscorner.com is the best I ever found.

Yes, and if you can find someone to share them with, it's best to buy them in 50-count for the best price.

I was told the ones with inner rings don't allow as much rattle of the coin when it is inserted.

The Air-Tite Holders manufacturers web site has a 30th Anniversary discount offer currently running if you order through them, 30% off $30 or more. Buying in bulk is the best way to buy AIr-Tite Holders with any semblance of a discount.

I personally think ASEs look great with black ring-type Air-Tite Holders:

the inner ring might affect the silver coin. i like fit size capsule only and sealed with cellophane.

I always use jpscorner.com and have always been satisfied. They are very fast in processing orders. I also prefer the black ring holders and never had a problem. I just don't like the way the direct fit holders put pressure on the coins where it touches around the rim.

one of my airtite inner ring melted and stick to the rim and some area of the coin surface. and the silver coin toned into blue and black. i don't know what causes that to happen.

There is only 1 thing that could cause it to happen - excess heat. And if you had tha much heat around your coins you have a bigger problem than what type of holder you use.

Like why it's over 200 degrees F where her coins are stored!

Elaine tells us from past threads that she's located in Singapore, which is a rather warm and moist climate for coins. I am curious about the cellophane (it's type, it's quality) and any effect this manner of storage could be having on her coins. Is she getting moisture trapped inside when she wraps the coins up such that they cannot 'breath' or is the plastic sheeting reactive to the foam ring, does cellophane break down? It seems to yellow with age, yet it should be food-grade safe and free of PVCs, but being in another country I cannot say what the brand is she may be using nor if it's passed food safety inspections... or is something else similarly related to having her coins bound up this way with these plastics in effect?

True it is warm, and moist in that part of the world. However, if I remember correctly from my firefighter days, plastic has a melting point of 200 degrees F.
