I'd like some opinions on what this coin might be. It is purported to be a medieval, 14th century Florin of Florence but I have my doubts. First of all the weight is way off. These coins should be about 3.5 grams and this one is a full 5.0 grams. Also from its color it seems more like something of 14 carat, not 24 carat gold. Also it appears to be a milled rather than a hammered coin and the edge may show signs of a seam or filing. Before I dismiss this, however, as a modern fantasy jeweler's piece I was wondering if this might be an attempt by some older entity to reproduce these coins as a medieval or early modern piece, perhaps from India where these things often wind up in jewelry. any help appreciated IMG_0595[1619]Florin obverse.jpg IMG_0596[1615]Florin reverse.jpg IMG_0600[1623]Florin edge.jpg IMG_0600[1623]Florin edge.jpg
