The same thing happened to me with an Anacs Ms63 booker T washington, though it was a 20 dollar coin and only graded Ms63. Perhaps the fingerprint brought it down. (it was graded by anacs)

Send it in to PCGS for spot/grade review and mention the reverse fingerprint. If I had to guess they will dip the coin and return it.

If you call PCGS customer service I would imagine that they will certainly look at the coin under either spot review or grade guarantee. They're quite good about it actually.

It wouldn't be graded down too much. I can't see it very well.

Really?? I didn't know that PCGS will dip a coin. I thought dipping is considered a form of mild cleaning/alteration that is 'market acceptable' (if I remember the words of GDJMSP (Doug) correctly). But only if it is done properly. It surprises me that PCGS would get involved with dipping. I would not think that they would want to take on the liability/responsibility of doing so.

Having said all of that, do you have to be a member of PCGS to get a spot/grade review? Thanks.

I doubt PCGS will downgrade the coin, there are lots of coins with much more prominent figure print still highly graded out there, here is another PCGS MS66 long.jpg

Yeah, really. They have even been known to dip coins without the owner's permission.

Without permission!? That's a lawsuit. Geez, I wouldn't mind reading a story about that sometime.

I shall never have any coins slabbed again! I'd rather enjoy looking at them without the fingerprints. I too had fingerprinting problems. I think the first thing you learn is to hold coins by the edge!

Happened to me with a toned shield nickel earlier this year. Pretty toning when I sent it in, dipped/washed out when they sent it back (in a details slab, no less). I never did a write up about it, though. Was a $75-$100 Coin, so I didn't care much, but this Was my first experience of it happening to me.

I can believe that. Personally I don’t find that print so offensive but I’ve seen others that were bad in straight holders. I usually try to rinse ms coins in acetone a lot of times right before putting them in a flip when I send them just in case as I’ve also seen plenty where foreign objects or debris etc cause a black spot in the slab

I have slabbed some coins and they were fingerprinted by the "professionals." I shall never have any coins slabbed again. I shall just enjoy them without the "grade." I know what grade they are and it is more fun.

One of the first things you learn is to hold coins by the edge. Basic!

You don't know that. Unless you're talking ultra moderns or moderns most coins have been handled countless times before they ever got to the TPG. Finger prints take a a while to show and sometimes a long time.
