Otherwise we wouldn&#039;t have any slabbed Morgans or slabbed early silver coins.</p><p><br /></p><p>But as I said - there are different degrees of dipping. A coin can be and often is over-dipped. In other words - it has been dipped too many times. This results in the coin having little or no original luster remaining. And these coins will often be body-bagged.</p><p><br /></p><p>Cleaning is another issue entirely - for there is cleaning and there is cleaning. For example - NGC&#039;s sister company NCS will &quot;conserve&quot; coins and then pass them on to NGC for grading and slabbing. Obviously - these coins have been &quot;cleaned&quot; - but yet they are still graded &amp; slabbed. And over the past 200 yrs there are literally millions of coins that have been cleaned by their owners at one point in time. But yet given time, these coins will re-tone and appear to have original surfaces. It all depends on the degree, or the harshness of the cleaning. These coins are also graded &amp; slabbed by the grading companies.</p><p><br /></p><p>So - it is a matter of definitions and degree when it comes to cleaning &amp; dipping a coin. Do it too much or too harshly - and the coin is ruined and deemed ungradeable.
