If a proof blank is first struck slightly off centre and then struck subsequently, could it produce a coin that is almost completely blurred, (lettering, profiles etc) and pronounced doubling effect? I know it is not a doubled die.
You don't even need magnification to see it. Visible to the naked eye is a "softened" appearance to all the devices, double outline of Monticello, lettering on the reverse, and a huge "doubled" look to his head from the nose up.
