It's a bit rough, but I believe this is my only Jamaican Queen Victoria coin. Junk bin find, as usual. Jamaica, 1 penny, 1895 Edit: I found 2 more in with my packaged coins while putting this one away. I wonder why early Jamaican coins weren't made out of bronze, like most other Commonwealth countries, but instead out of copper-nickel or nickel-brass. $3 for the pair, bringing my cost for the set to the princely sum of $3.25. L: 1 Penny, 1995 C: 1/2 Penny, 1891 R: Farthing, 1880
Here are my 2 from Ceylon to go with @PaddyB 's post L: 5 Cents, 1870 R: 1/2 Farthing, 1853 (holed) Odd for a copper coin to be holed, since it had no significant metal value. Perhaps someone wore it as a keepsake or good luck charm. The half farthing isn't precisely a Ceylon issue. They were originally made for Ceylon, but later made legal tender in the UK in 1842. So it could have circulated in Ceylon, the UK, or one of the other colonies.
Looks like that's it for my Victoria collection. The lifetime issues I haven't see yet are: East Africa -- Probably attainable--they made several million Gibraltar -- Mintages on these are pretty low. I've never seen one. Mauritius -- looks doable Australia -- sovereigns or tokens. Could be challenging New Zealand -- tokens only Various Indian states -- I have a few from that era, but none with her portrait Countermarked Coins -- French Somaliland, Mozambique, Trinidad & Tobago, Yemen I'd love to see one of these if anyone has one. Never even seen one for sale. Please feel free to post any other interesting coins with Victoria portraits on them!
