No, you're not breaking any laws, but a better idea would be to sell these rather than spending them. You could try eBay, but I find plated "gimmicky" coins sell best at flea markets. Whenever I receive one in change or from my favorite bank teller, they go right into a 2x2 and are sold for 10x face at the monthly market. These "items" are among the easiest to sell of all the coins I offer.

Yeah, I'd suggest ebay for those. Maybe craigslist, if you're careful. Won't get what you paid, but you should do a little better than face value I'd think. Lots of non-collectors fall for the "something special" angle. But if you still want to, you're free to spend them anywhere you'd like, plated coins are still coins.
