What was the venue where you bought it?

Local coin shop, the owner doesn't like messing with pennies, so he called me when the box came into his shop.

...did he find it in his grandfather's clock that stopped short, never to run again... :) Actually looks pretty nice.

An elderly woman's husband passed and it was his. The white prescription bottle in the box is full of '43 S steel cents, the label is marked 1957, Gardena, Ca. The penny roll papers are from all over the country.

The match boxes contain specific dates, the majority are from the San Francisco mint, the gentleman must have favored SF. The partial rolls are specific dates also with notations on the side. I will post anything interesting I come across.

That looks like a seriously fun box to go through. Have a great time scouring those cents. And please post intermittent finds, interesting and different coins, and ultimately final tally's.

Box contained two containers of '43 steel pennies, corroded, but in the rolls was a partial with 32 '43 S steel in pristine condition, when I opened the roll, at first glance, I thought they were dimes. Also, the Ohio Blue Tip match boxes are vintage 1950's, eBay has them for $5 to $16 each. steel pennies.jpg match boxes.jpg

Found this 1941 S Variety Vista DDO-002 and rpm north; the special part, I have a roll of 50 of this error. The roll is bank fresh. 1941S.jpg 1941Srev.jpg 1941Sdate1.jpg

  14. That looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing. Also nice steel cents!

    I don't think your 41 is a ddo. Doesn't match. Imo

I did notice the reverse has a slight feeder finger damage. Nice coin.

Thanks for the input, I agree on the ddo, I think the mint mark is too high.

I'm leaning toward machine doubling, Wexler has a couple, but these have none of his pick up point. The cool part, I think, is that there are 47 identical coins in the roll, suggesting to me, they've been together since 1941.

Found a common 1909, no mint or VDB, pretty rough. 1909B.jpg
