Alas, why do such things only happen to other people? :arghh:

I just bought my 1st gold coin a couple weeks ago.

It is a 2013 1/20th ounce gold Britannia. I chose this as my first gold coin due to its beauty and low mintage. Since I was buying on eBay I also made sure I got a graded one to make sure it was authentic. 2013GB Gold.jpg

Come visit New Hampshire and while you're here, you can buy some gold and not pay sales tax.

It's only a matter of time. I'm not a major CRH enthusiast, but if you look at a box of coins every other week, you'll have your share of successes. Mini-dumps and the occasional significant find. I've found gold in nickels, silver in cents, plenty of variety and error coins. This Ducat is among my more significant finds, but it's only worth spot (around $120). The variety coins have been the bigger finds over the years, but being part of a small number of folks who struck gold during a CRH event; that's kind of fun. But I'll take another 1917 DDO or another Henning nickel over another Ducat.

Well, I'm doomed then. I don't have the patience for CRH.

Yes, it's not for everyone. I'm a bit of a purist especially in areas where collecting from the wild remains productive. With time and persistence, building a Jefferson Series collection from the wild is a doable challenge. Along the way, you'll find some really great coins...batteries...plastic tokens. Finding gold was unexpected and only realized when I decided to go back through a bunch of foreign coinage I set aside to see how many different countries appeared during my searches. I found this in a roll of cents (you never know). IMG_0480.JPG

Purchased as a raw VF in 1992 -- this particular coin brought the fever on...
