PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT Ptolemy III Euergetes 246-222 BC. Æ Oktobol 46.2mm, 93.90 g Alexandreia mint.
YES Chris, you're the best, 93.90 gr is the heaviest, I think you are the CoinTalk champ. Mine is only a scant 92.26 gr. It's a great type! One of the heaviest coins ever that was really used. As classical as a George III 1797 cartwheel two pence. I used to cherish one coin, before I was collecting coins at all, in the 1980s and 1990s. I kept it as an old Egyptian museum piece to adorn my dinner table between meals, a bronze drachm of Ptolemy IV. And still love it. Egypt, AE drachm Ptolemy IV (221-205), Alexandria. Obv. Zeus t.r. Rev. eagle looking t.l. Labda Iota between legs. 40 mm, 67.12 gr. Svoronos1125. The octobol measures 46 mm and it is harder to make a clear coin of it. Think of the force that was needed to mint a piece that large! I made this pic on a warm summer day outside in the sun. Egypt, AE octobol Ptolemy III (246-221). Obv. Head of Zeus r. Rev. Eagle looking over its shoulder with head t.r., monogram E (?) between legs. Series 4. Svoronos 446. 46 mm, 92.26 gr.
I have a few P-III-E Guy coins: I do have a much heavier stamped coin, not a cast coin, but it is from another Empire in Africa.
