Proof US Silver Eagle question

I have a complete set of proof Silver Eagles. Some are in original mint packaging, some are slabbed by PCGS graded at PR69. I am thinking about cracking the slabbed coins out and putting them into mint packaging. I have found a supplier for the presentation boxes, but not for the capsules and COA's.

What would be better, leaving them as is or moving to mint packages?

If I do switch to mint packages, where might I find capsules and COA's?

Just wondering.. Why would you want to break them out of the PCGS holders?

They are mine! I can do as I please with them! I don't know what I want to do with them. I do intend to keep them, though. Should they all be in the same packaging? Should I sent the rest off to PCGS?

Indicating your reasons as to "WHY" may actually help the OP per his inquiry.

Um, no. Your statement is without logic and fails to be humorous.

Personal preference is enough reason. A consistent presentation among all items in the collection another.

Well , your the only one who should make that determination . I would think cracking those out of their holders , would be throwing away a tidy sum, and for what ? My suggestion is leave em as they are unless you have specific plans for otherwise displaying the collection.

Only you can decide which you prefer. If conservation is a concern of yours and the expense of time and money involved in having coins graded is not a concern nor drag on your budget, then you may elect to go this route. Ask yourself how you will then feel with the coins all removed from OGP and sitting in graded slabs... will different grades on each make you think differently about the coins? if they were ungraded and left in OGP (the other graded examples returned to OGP) would this be more eye appealing to you? There are many things to consider either route you choose but you must identify them so that we can give you feedback for your consideration.

If $$$ is not a concern of yours, my recommendation would be to put them all in slabs. Your collection will be graded and officially registered/documented. It will also take up less space by storing them in a slab box, opposed to all of those little boxes. And when in a slab you can easily see both sides of your coin without having to remove it from the Mint's velvet box.

Thanks, everyone. Especially krispy and LTB. Lots more to this than I thought!

There is also the option of selling the slabbed ones and buying mint-packaged ones.

Why not go for 2 sets, one mint-packaged and one slabbed? Best o both worlds! :thumb:

I would do this, sell the types of packaging, (or trade to dealer), and get the type you prefer. I completely understand you wanting them in similar packaging, whichever type you prefer.

That's kind of my feeling too. It sounds to me like the OP is leaning more toward the "mint packaged" sets than the "slabbed" ones. If that's the case, then I would suggest picking up duplicates of the slabbed coins in OGP. Just MHO. :) I like OGP for ASE's better anyway......:)

Thanks to all of you. I've made up my mind. Two sets! One in slabs and the other in mint packaging.
