I got this at auction about 4 months ago, and is a nice specimen. The surfaces are PL, the die work very good although no cameo. There is wire edges partially.
The price guides are saying there are proofs, but they are unconfirmed. What does this mean? I was looking for a mintage number. NGC and Numista say the same thing.
None have been recorded as seen. Numbers evidently were not kept. In 25 years of collecting, I have not seen another. I lost out on the 1966 Scotish shilling that went for 250 dollars more.
So are you thinking that this is a proof? Does it have square edges? I am unfamiliar with these pieces so I do not know if they normally come well-struck, or if they tend to be proof like.
A few nice photogs.....it's the 'elongated' ones that befuddle me........seriously out of focus, but the straight/dead on shots redeem you brother.
This coin, in hand, has quite square edges with reeding very sharp. This was an era that the currency coins were struck without much in the way of prep or detail, and so they do not come this way at all. As an interesting sidelight, there are quite a few errors from this time period and some were "planned", that is struck as mintsport.
