Good Morning My wife came home with 10 of these beauties! A lady cashed them in for 1 stamp wife saw all the gold toning and put 50 cents in draw and brought these home to me. The gold toning is as close to a proof nickel that I've ever seen? Is there such a thing as 1954 S Proof?
That's a San Fran business strike, a proof wouldn't have a MM. Try cropping your photos. It makes them much easier for us to see the coin.
Proofs were struck at Philadelphia with no mm until 1968 when the S mint started producing them.so yes this is just a business strike S with a mintage of 30 million, still it looks nice.
So, that is the OP's coin? Anyways, it is courteous and if someone wants good answers they should crop their own photos.
I would if I wasn't so computer illiterate but I'll research it and hopefully learn. Thanks I just took a shot at it? Thanks
You can do it from your phone before you post it. Just go into edit. And remove all the extraneous background from the photo. It's pretty easy.
The 54-S is the notoriously worst struck of the entire Jefferson series, but in my experience, often has outstanding luster. It is probably that luster that is tricking you into thinking it is a proof.
They may not be proofs but they are very nice indeed. I would seal them all and keep them. Thanks for sharing them.
Too bad about the finger print on Jefferson's head. If it's a new print, you might be able to remove it before it becomes permanent.
Thank-you for spotting that it was me before I knew how clean it was put cotton gloves on and rubbed (gone)! Didn't dare acetone TY MTN Man
I was able to exchange a quarter for a gold platted quarter at my Credit Union. I thought it was neat and the teller wasn't supposed to use it in the deposit, so I got it and stuck it somewhere, I think in one of my empty slots of a State Quarter book.
