The 1964 proof sets were issued in a cellophane flat pack, not a plastic holder.

 

That's cool Mike I was just being a smarta** but I see it coming out wrong and I apologize. I know you know what you're talking about but sometimes my pictures are bad or explanations are off but I honestly didn't mean to offend you and still respect your opinion.

The coins from the original post all appear to be proofs, except the cent, judging solely by the strike, but honestly from the pics, it's almost impossible to be sure.

 

So Chris, they didn't have broken stars? I thought the reverse was the main die marker other than the hair obviously. See..I don't know everything I'm on with admitting that lol. I value all the help I can get and thank you all for any info and assistance.

 

I believe that he is referring to Special Mint sets which do exist for 1964, but are rarer than hen's teeth. He's hoping to find coins from one.

 

IIRC, the best marker is the missing serif on the I in liberty on the obverse.

 

The set that I have of proofs for the year are fully mirrored almost like someone polished them. 1960-64 all look like that in my collection actually. I noticed a decent amount of frost on the fields of these so that's why I asked. Idk maybe I'll send the Half Dollar out and see what happens. I'll put up a different picture of the reverse for now on the half but I'll have to take better pictures later tonight.

No I haven't made it to anything big yet since I've only been in about a year now and live in rural Pennsylvania. Location makes it hard to do much more than study pictures and coins from various no name coin shops. Sucks but that's why I appreciate any honest help over an average opinion with no explanation as to why.

Try to get to a bigger show. Many times there are experts such as Randy Campbell (former ANACS grader) or other noted authorities on coins and they'll look at your coin (and give you an education) for free.

 

Ya ANACS and SEGS are doing a pretty big show in Monroeville soon if it hasn't passed already I would like to try to make it. Still 2hrs away but not too bad considering there could be something to gain or a few nice coins to at least grab. As far as ANACS and their attribution, have they ever been known to have designated a 1964 SMS Coin? I don't think these are just because of my own doubts but it wouldn't hurt to pay the extra just for laughs. I've only seen PCGS and NGC for them and I'm pretty sure NGC doesn't even give that designation anymore. They do kind of resemble the 1965 SMS Set but I've come to terms with just not being that lucky to buy a set for $35 lol

 

Jim, others have told you that those coins, except for the cent, are proofs, not SMS.
I'll tell you that that Half Dollar is a an Accented Hair variety proof.
I like it, it's nice, especially with the toning. I think it would grade at least PF63.

 

Yes Rick, again, I have repeated that I don't believe they are, but for $12 extra for variety attribution, I may as well pay to know we're correct, right? You originally posted almost immediately that they could be yourself so there was obviously the thought of possibility. Trust me, I get it, but I won't be disappointed. My OP was to ask if they were Proof or Philly Mint Business Strike. You brought SMS into this. I have admitted that I spent some time obsessing over finding an SMS variety, and was no longer even concerned because I have a better chance winning the Power Ball Lottery over finding an entire set. Thank you for your input but these are simple questions that require no attitude. And hey, I apparently stumbled on an Accented Hair Half by asking that question so I'm happy. Don't be so grumpy man I get it.

 

I would like to add that IMO, the I does not have a broken sheriff and it was the toning mixed with shadow that made it appear that way.
