The Abundantia type is introduced in Lugdunum in the 4th Emission (Middle to End A.D. 277) and is carried on through the 5th Emission (Fancy busts celebrating the triumphal return of Probus from war with the Gauls) and into the 6th Emission in 278 - 279 A.D.

The coins seem to have usually been produced from Officina 4.

The following coin is a typical (if reasonably nice looking) example of this output

    Obv:– IMP C PROBVS • P • F • AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right
Rev:– ABVNDANTIA AVG, Abundatia, standing right, empting cornucopiae
Minted in Lugdunum (IIII in exe) Emission 4 Officina 4. Middle to End A.D. 277
Reference:– Cohen 1. Bastien 195. RIC 17 Bust type F

Here is one of the more unusual output from Officina 1

    Obv:– IMP C PROBVS • P • F • AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right
Rev:– ABVNDANTIA AVG, Abundatia, standing right, empting cornucopiae
Minted in Lugdunum (I in exe) Emission 4 Officina 1. Middle to End A.D. 277
Reference:– Cohen 1. Bastien 183 (2 examples cited). RIC 17 Bust type F var (not listed for this officina)

Reverse die match to both examples is Bastien.

    Weight 3.02g. 23.56mm. 180 degrees

I have just added another more unusual variation which gave me an excuse for this thread.

Obv:– IMP C PROBVS P F AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right
Rev:– ABVNDANTIA AVG I, Abundatia, standing right, empting cornucopiae
Minted in Lugdunum (IIII in exe) Emission 4 Officina 4. Middle to End A.D. 277
Reference:– Cohen -. Bastien -. RIC 17 Bust type F var (reverse legend)

    3.62 g. 23.64 mm. 0 degrees

    RI_132zc_img.JPG

This new example with an additional I at the end of the reverse legend is not noted in any examples in RIC or Bastien nor in any of the Bastien Supplements.

The style placces it in Emission 4 with the other coins above.

The elaborate bust types are all very different from the standard Curiassed only varieties that dominate the earlier and later issues

Obv:– IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG, Radiate, helmeted, cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield, horseman on shield
Rev:– ABVNDANTIA AVG, Abundantia standing right, emptying cornucopiae
Minted in Lugdunum (IIII) Emission 5 Officina 4. End A.D. 277 to Early A.D. 278
Reference:– RIC 59 Bust type G. Cohen 5. Bastien 248

    RI_132xd_img.jpg
And the Emission 6 examples have a very different bust style with a generally thinner, taller bust and more cuirass visible.

Obv:– IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG, Radiate cuirassed bust right
Rev:– ABVNDANTIA AVG, Abundantia standing right, emptying cornucopiae
    Minted in Lugdunum (IIII in exe) Emission 6, Officina 4. 278 - 279 A.D.
Reference:– Cohen 4, Bastien 291. RIC 59 Bust type F

Fantastic new addition Martin! I have never seen such a spelling error in Probus' coinage before. This coin is definitely unpublished an most likely an UNICUM! congrats!
