Got a $2 bill that is cut oddly (not centered, curves on the edge, the cut is jagged on the top). I can't decide if it's just a printing/cutting error or if it's a forgery.

I've uploaded 2 images from my scanner (front and back).

What do you think? Fake or real? img004 (2).jpg img005 (2).jpg

Why do you suppose someone would counterfeit a $2 note? (Btw, the reverse of this note is my all time favorite reverse!)

No idea. I just felt it was fishy since $2 bills are more rare. So this one really stuck out as odd to me.

I didn't event realize printing errors were a thing until I found this site when trying to research the bill.

Likely hand cut from a larger sheet which are available from the BEP to collectors.

It's not so much that $2 notes are "rare" as much as people just don't use them, & banks & businesses don't usually give them in change. You have to be proactive & specifically ask for them at a bank.

Uneven edges are more common than perfectly centered ones, & even though this one is a little a kilter, it's nothing special.

But deuces are great, so if you don't already have one, keep it.

    @tommyc03 nailed it.

Post BEP cutting from a sheet sold to collectors. Poor margins are one thing but wavy edges and the serial number give it away.

Serial numbers above 96000000 were reserved for sheets sold by the BEP. You number is higher so that's the giveaway. I think they changed this for the 2013 Series, but yours is a 2009

Hand cut from a sheet. The high serial is the giveaway. It's worth $2.

I’ve heard your remarks about $2 notes similar to this before, can you elaborate ? It sounds like your sending a message to not collect $2 notes, is that the case ?

I would be happy to, I can kind of compare this to using them in everyday life
Think about it, when is the last time you have actually seen one being used
Like at the grocery store or gas station ? chances are not very much, its
Not that there rare as you can go in to just about any bank and get as many
as you want its the face that people just dont use them for what ever reason
Kind of an odd ball amount for most people.

Lool closely at the $2.00 bill. If you see small red and blue threads here and there then it is legit.

As stated, someone hand cut it from a sheet they bought from BEP and spent it.
