Further down the scale, collecting is just less popular. Mid-range art and antiques are now very cheap. I&#039;m interested in rarity effects, too. In the art market rarity generally conveys a premium. But too much rarity and there&#039;s nothing to collect. The last great collection of medieval enamels was sold a decade or so ago, and it bombed. Theory is that no one could hope to build a collection today, because they&#039;re all in museums now.
