ND86 could you give us a ball park figure on unc 1st spouse coins? I think that would help a lot of us (will it be just slightly over gold value, or have a huge premium?)

I just came back from a local coin show and couple of dealers had few rolls of Washington's dollar for sale. The color of these coins are awful and I guess they will look ugly after few days in circulation.

There is nothing appealing in the design and it looks like a combination of cheap tokens issued by some gas company.

Ballabh,it seems strange that the 1st. of the Presidential Dollars are out already, even though they don't become legal tender until this Thursday.

I think Feb 15th is the day when US Mint will start selling these in Mint and Proof sets. This date has nothing to do with their legality as a legal tender. US mint struck and ship them to Fed reserves for distributing it to banks. In this case, looks like some banks received them before they go on sale on US Mint web-site.

BTW, the dealer who showed me those rolls was selling it for $5 premium over face for the roll.

Yes the Post office is getting rid of the coin vending and replacing them with credit card stamp vending machines.
For the lucky ones living in the South Jersey- Philly area you can put $5 ,10 or 20 in the change machines @ the High Speed line (train) and get all the dollars you want. Last night I put in $20 and got back half Sac's 2000 & 2001 and SBA most 79 & 80's got 2 1999's

Every bank branch has one person responsible for ordering coins and currency. Frequently it's the Chief Teller or the Merchant Teller, and in many smaller branches it's the Operations Officer. I'm not sure that any of you who asked tellers about distribution of the coins got the straight scoop since very often no one but the person responsible for ordering knows anything about what's coming. Since the order date, minimum amounts, and other information is in bulletins and flyers which the person ordering coins/currency receives and may or may not tell other people about, if you want the straight skinny, be sure you ask the right employee.

BTW branch managers are almost always promoted from the lending side, not the operations side, I wouldn't always assume that the BM knows what's going on regarding new coins.

My take on them.... I dig'em...

I'm not a excited about the Obverse as I had hopped I'd be, but theEdge wording is pretty cool (albeit a bit hard to read) and I really like the Reverse... It kinda reminds me of a Platinum Eagle Design or something...

I will admit the color is a tad funny though...

I mean, I thought I read its was supposed to be the same planchete as the SACs, but its not quite as gold or yellowish as the SACs...

Also, if you look at them in different angles, they look like they are silver with a thin gold coat...

I'll see if I can take a decent res photo in a few.... My luck, they'll either be to dark or the Flash will wash them out though...

BTW, thanks to ""Thedrew" for sending them out to me so fast...

Everone that I've showed so far was like, NO, way, How'ed you get those!!! I just quoted those new H & R Block commericals.... ""I got People!!!"

I was thinking about this thread and at first I thought about getting a few rolls from my bank. But then as I thought more about it, and if it's true about banks must order $1000 minimum, I'd prolly only get Washington P or D and then that would be it. Most banks aren't going to keep ordering every time a new prez is released and for sure you wouldn't get both mints. Getting UNC rolls from your bank is the cheapest route, but I'm thinking of doing a subscription from US Mint. If they're even going to have subscriptions, what do you think? Thanks, Douglas
