I know this is an old thread but that's an awesome coin! It's worth a second look!

PS, my mom gets me D rolls from KS but somehow the Washington she got me was a P roll! Inexplicable!

During the States Quarters program, I was buying the Mint-wrapped rolls at $35.50 per 2-roll set of P&D. I had accumulated 105 rolls when I ran into financial problems and had to have some fast cash. I had no choice but to sell them at a $650 loss.

My advice would be if you can get them at face value from the bank or through the Mint's Direct Ship program, fine! But, if you're going to pay a premium to purchase the Prez rolls whether they be from the Mint or some other seller, save your money.

They have sold for a small premium on ebay, with the exception of Harrison which sold for a HUGE premium for some reason.

Over time this won't produce much by way of investment. However, if you have one roll of each president and package it together, I have seen groups like that go for a nice premium on ebay. Over time, I'm not sure that it will hold that premium, but if you pay face value for them, keep them, you are taking ZERO risk since you can always just spend them.

Oops, this is a really old thread....

(Sorry about the reboot! I warned us in post #22!) I think the Harrisons got a huge premium because they were sold out early on the Mint's site; before people who wanted them had gotten them, managing their purchases based on the longevity of all the previous rolls.

PS: The price on Harrison's roll is surprisingly holding up.

Worth buying beat up old Presidential rolls!!

I went to RBC near here and asked for rolls of Presidentials, especially Polk, which I know have errors on the obverse, and Washingtons. They had ONE roll of Washingtons, and it was dirty and dingy, with the end coins pretty much toast. I broke it open and found the remainder gradable, nearly as high as the highest PCGS. And with a satin finish. So you never know. Yes there were LOTS AND LOTS of Presidentials, but I see it as search opportunity if they accumulate in banks nearby. Spend fifty bucks at a time, get some goodies from those two rolls, and go at it again when you have enough to pony up for more. The early Washingtons, Adams, and Jeffersons also have some added features. On Ken Potter's site he lists some Adams dollars with Laser etching, and they sell for a small premium over other Adams. I was the one who reported these to him. Around here, the Washingtons, Adams, and Jeffersons ALL had varying degrees of that Laser etching: some complete, some a little, some only hints. They were indeed experimenting with it. As a completist, i put a set of Pos A and Position B, etched AND unetched, and with the three different incuse types. So from the first year, I have a huge assortment of different varieties of the Presidential Dollars. All different and obscure.
Finally, as I was looking through a roll of some of the other presidential dollars she sold me, I stumble on a 2008 Laser etched. The only one I saw. Now I know 2008 had laser etching, and it opens up the possibility that other 2008 had them as well.
Getting those rolls cracked open is the key though. Never know what is in there, or what you can capitalize on, till it is opened up.
    Happy hunting!:)

Thought that those interested in learning where to find the Washington dollar rolls with errors inside, may be interested in the following...

After searching for dollar coin errors on eBay, I found one seller who has had a dozen eBayers buying his coin rolls and the buyers found "MISSING EDGE ERROR COINS" in the rolls worth $150 to $200 and the rolls are only selling for $32 to $40 each. Seems like an outstanding return on one's investment to me. What do you think ? ie-ebay items 170535294621 and 170538080624.

Here are the item numbers for upcoming auctions from this seller for those interested, but please do not consider this a promotion or pitch for these coins or coin rolls. There is feedback from the above lucky ebayers to back up the error coin finds. All looks on the up and up to me, but I suggest you do your own research and homework. I would love to hear back from anyone on CoinTalk with there experience shopping these auctions or if anyone has purchased dollar coin rolls from eBay auctions. Thank you.

Let me know what you think, ok?

Amazing that your bank even had any $1 rolls - every time I ask for them (for my wife at the park-and-ride) they are scarce - mixed rolls - still getting 1979 SBAs ...
