read some of the post on that coin when i sold it, there was no price guide on ms-67 at that time ! you just don't understand new graded coins that have no price guide when you sell them, here an example if an ms-67 is worth 20 dollars, and you have a ms-68 which there is no price for in the price guide, you get to make the price, do you understand, or are you still lost

I read that and understood that.

In that same post; however, you stated
What I'm saying to you is there IS a price guide for that coin in that grade and the current price guide list's the value over 50% less than what you have, and are willing to sell that coin for.

Even the Position A variety lists for more than 50% of what you sold that for.

What I'm saying is he would be foolish to buy those for $5k from anyone when he could get them for much, MUCH less.

You get to set the asking price, the buyer gets to set the offer price, and eventually if the two prices meet then a transaction takes place.

What you're describing is the same thing that happened when the new Pontiac Solstice came out. People were bidding thousands of dollars over list to be one of the first to drive the car off the lot. I personally had a friend who sold their spot in line for $5k and just had to wait an extra three months to get her car. I will take that deal any day all day!

true, but if you bought the first year viper made for 75,000.00 dollars, its now worth 250,000.00

thats why i sold it when there was no price guide for ms-67, 66 was the highest grade at the time

A mass-produced presidential dollar coin is much more like a Solstice than a Viper. ;) And I disbelieve that even the first year Vipers are selling for $250,000. See here for auction results for 1992 Vipers, showing an average selling price of $44K and a high of $60K. But I'm derailing the topic with car talk, so I'll shut up now.

But you won't sell it for that price again, unless you get a total idiot to buy one for that price.

Are you saying that your coin is NOT listed on the following page?

    http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/2005PMinnDDRImages.htm

There are more than 72 listed.

    No.............it's not.

What you just said is the same as saying that a Van Gogh is only worth $5.00 since thats what someone who had no idea what it was would pay for it.

The Lincoln is exactly the same. To the uneducated, it's only a penny BUT once its identity is made known, then hte value of the coin soars many millions of times over a penny.

Therefore, the "REAL" World value of the penny is over a million bucks.

^^^^ An Ike dollar is only worth a dollar, but the one that isn't like the other is worth much more. Why? Because of the rarity of the item. Face value only applies to pocket change that is exactly the same as the others. Why else did someone pay you 5000 times the face value of a dollar coin?

take that cent to any store and see what its worth, i'll be back tomorrow to answer all off your questions, or ask dr. phil what it worth ! lol !!! have a great night everybody ! and yes that cent in the coin world is worth ever dollar, but not in the retail world, its only worth a cent ! thats my point !

Your point while valid, is flawed. Your entire posting in this thread alone, is flawed. Every coin in the world is only worth face value at a store or shop. Everyone knows that. But with that logic, a painting is only worth the cost of the paint, brush and canvas it's painted on. That is a fools argument, and one that is made to rile people up, which is what I think you're doing. But like your $4999.00 profit on a single presidential dollar, the coin was OBVIOUSLY worth more than it's face value, especially to the person who bought it, who in my opinion, is a fool, especially if he's made you a standing offer of the same price for any MS67 presidential dollars you get.

    Right and an excellent point!

So, using the point made above regarding the "Real World", if I take my 1794 Dollar to a 7/11, I'll only get a $1.00 credit for it! Heck, I don't think I could get more than a buck for it at a Bank!

I've read some really silly analogies and some really goofy statements on this US "Coin" Forum but this one takes the cake.
On the positive side though, I'm gonna start referring to "Face Value" for every coin, colector/proof/high grade, I come in contact with or read about in "Real World" terms.

    Nah. Folks would think I was _ _ _ _

Great point everybody, but remember this is just small talk, and all in fun ! now lets all remember, paintings are not made from the us mint, or any other mint, with a set value
