While that may be your opinion, not everyone shares it with you. Personally, I enjoyed the series and wished it would have continued. Sure, these may not have been a perfect candidate for getting rid of the $1 bill, it is better to take a step forward, no matter how small, than for the Government to take another large step back.
I've been completing my uncirculated set by buying cut up official mint sets people selling in eBay, a few times under face value. Last score was 2010 Presidential dollars with the NA dollar included for 8 bucks, $10 face value total.
No. You are not wrong as the collector versions will still be minted. They are just toning down the circulation production. The way I see it is they'll handle the Presidential Dollars exactly the same way as the Kennedy Half Dollar. When will the baloney ever end? I'm simple floored that the "administration" has the unmitigated gall to state that this move will save the taxpayers $50 million a year and totally blow off the fact that the GAO has published figures that eliminating the paper dollar bill will save $184 million a year. Minimum.
Now thats funny. Actually, the Kennedy Half Dollar has enjoyed mintages of less than 2 million coins per mint for the past couple of years but it hasn't increased their values by a single yen!
I don't truly believe that the United States Government actually wants to decrease costs as this move is a prime example. Something so simple in its context yet so difficult to achieve. As a government, they are about as effective as the local Home Owners Association and as inept as the AARP.
Can I assume that the first spouse medals will continue? I have been collecting both the first spouse medals and the presidential dollars.
Doesn't that make the presidential dollar collectors folders I bought pretty much worthless after a certain year now? That sucks. Should I be buying up the uncirculated ones the bank has in now for any reason?
If the federal government really cared about saving money, we wouldn't have this.......... http://www.usdebtclock.org/ Chris
Before you diss the dollar bill, spend a little time in the great white north. Change a 10 spot and you get a pocketful of 1 & 2 dollar coins plus quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. I hated lugging around all that Canadian metal. For that reason I wish the US would get with the times and go polymer.
Let's say you paid for a $1 purchase with a $10 bill. You'd get a $5 bill and 2 toonies - hardly a "pocketful". I go to Canada frequently and it never seems to be a problem, neither for me or the residents.
The coins will still be minted, just not for circulation. So now expect to pay premiums on them rather than face value. That's what ticks me off.
They'll never be worthless.......always worth a buck. They will finish it. The mint will provide collector versions much like they do with the Kennedy Half's. Ya see? That's the difference between you and me. I don't mind walking about with a ton o' change in my pocket. Did it from an early age right on up to present day. Frankly, for me, I wouldn't mind (in fact I have) digging into my pocket for a few dollar coins as opposed to reaching for my wallet to pull out a bunch o' paper....
Bet I can run faster than you and I don't have to wear a belt and suspenders. Good luck with the pocket mining.:smile
Yeah, my mother recorded the new story over here in Michigan about them cutting the Presidental Dollar program. That sucks. I...uh...guess that means there is NO chance of getting ANY kind of HALF DOLLAR program going. Damn! But hey, I STILL think that most people, especially seniors who complain about heavy coins, would go for a smaller, lighter half more than a dollar coin, and also more than going for one, let alone TWO heavier quarters. IF the U.S. people even wanted a 50 cent denomination. They say that the $2 bill is starting to gain more popularity (though I would like to know where, as I have never seen any in circulation, unless "I" put it there, except two or three times) so maybe, if they at least, redesigned the half to be smaller, while also more distinguishible from other coins, it may also start to become popular again. And like I said, maybe the FED should just melt down that 10 year supply of Kennedy large halves, to use the metals for the new small halves, and...To free up more storage space, for more Prez and Sac Bux!
