Picked up these two Habsburg Maria Theresa silvers recently: Left: Austria, 1764, Graz Mint, 10 Kreuzer 0.500 Ag Right: Hungary, 1778, 20 Krajcrár, 0.538 Ag Both were pretty reasonable, about $12 for the pair. I really love the radiant Madonna and Child on Hungarian coins Please feel free to post any pre-union (before 1867) Austrian or Hungarian coins here!
Please do! You wouldn't have to post all of them if you don't want to... Here are a couple more of my older Hungarian ones (not new purchases): Upper: Hungary, Denár, II. Ulászló 1498-1503 K-h Lower: Hungary, 1617, Denár
Here a few I have: Hungary Coloman 1095-1114 Denar NGC MS61 Hungary Istvan II – 1114-1131) Denar NGC MS62 Hungary Bela II – 1131-1141 Denar NGC MS64 Hungary Ludwig II – 1516-1526 Denar NGC MS62 Hungary War of Independence Ferdinand V – 1837-1848 Kreuzer NGC MS63RB
Thanks for all the posts so far! Here are 3 more of my early 1800s Austria coins. The 7 kreuzer 1802 I believe is overstruck over a debased 1795 12 kreuzer. Austria 7 Kreutzer 1802 Austria 20 Kreuzer Franz I 1807 Austria 1849 C 6 Kreuzer 0.4375 And some coppers from northern Italy under Austrian rule: Lombardy Venetia 5/10 Soldo 1862 (under Franz Joseph I) Gorizia 1 Soldo 1764 H (under Maria Theresa) Gorizia 1 Soldo 1788 (under Joseph II)--not sure which mint mark, its pretty rough! The nicer of the two Gorizia coppers was given away by my oldest during a performance of "A Servant of Two Masters," a Venetian comedy from 1746. In some modern adaptations of the play, there is audience participation and the cast have to improvise a bit. When the servant Truffaldino complains he has no money to buy food, sometimes audience members will give him actual money. And he would sadly pretend to reject it as fake because he has never heard of "The United States" nor a date in the 20th Century. So my daughter gave him a 1700s Venetian coin during the performance to see what he would ad-lib.
Picked up some more 1800s Austrian coppers a couple weeks ago. New ones are the 1861 4 Kr, 1816 1 Kr, 1851 1 Kr, 1858 5/10 Kr. It's interesting to me how much the size of the copper 1 kreuzers varied. The 1816 1 Kr is almost as big as the 1861 4 Kr, though thinner. 30 and 15 Kr close up 1861 4 Kr 1 Kr 1800, 1816, 1851 5/10 Kr 1858
According to Numista the 1816 Ein Kreuzer was struck with the same date until 1852, so might help explain the size compared to a later dated piece.
