I have been shot over this photograph of a coin that my brother is mulling over and I was asked my opinion. I am not an expert but I can see a full shield and a full head.

What do you think might be a fair grade or value for this?

Obverse is out of focus, I can not give an opinion on that. The coin has luster but the motted toning on the obverse is not my taste. I am concerned about the black stains on the eagles (right facing) wing. The shield shows the rivets well but Liberty and most of the reverse appears to have a weak strike. Perhaps the weak reverse is due to the metal flowing into the obverse during the strike? Tuff coin to strike well. Minus the stains and the black toning this might be a nice coin, but we have to look at it as it is presented not what it could be. It shows enough luster to be a candidate for conservation but removing the stains may prove to be difficult... I feel finding a better SLQ is not hard. I would pass. Time is on your brothers side. Enjoy the journey.

FH are much easier to find than non FH in this date . . . photos are not good enough to try and grade from. Sorry.

It looks graded...if there's a grade then one of your questions is answered...no need to offer grades if it already has one, unless you're asking for opinions of that grade...sort of unclear. If so, what IS the grade...? Then you can look up values.

A perfect slab made for that particular coin makes me think it is already graded. Better front and back pic's would be great, in my opinion. Good luck.

Is it in a slab, or Air Tite? The obverse photo is too blurry to get a good sense of it.
