Here is a very expensive drill hole....

Somewhere, I also have a photo of an 1893, Round Top 3, with an EF-grade reverse, and the obverse turned into a Love Token...

There they are! I wonder if it was a network route issue, or maybe the site was being blocked at work -- although it was our "public" network, which tends not to do that sort of thing.

I've got a LOT of unfortunate coins, but here are a couple for which I've already got photos on hand:

    Proof-only issue:

I've got a couple of even "better" examples, when I have time to get some more photos...

So very many unfortunate ones in that big eBay lot -- for example, some Liberty nickels.

    unf-1901.jpg

Ugh, did that spend a century in the back of the fridge? Oh, well, at least nobody holed it or anything...

    unf-1903.jpg

Oh, dear. Good thing it wasn't a more desirable date, or in a higher grade.

    unv-1891.jpg

Sigh. Well, at least it's a fairly tidy hole...

From that same eBay lot, although not fallen from such heights as the coins others have posted here:

That 1852 actually looks like it was in great shape, perhaps minus the cheek scratches, before someone decided to plate or coat or dip it in the white stuff. :( I can't quite tell whether it's more silver- or nickel-colored now.

Is that a bullet hole in the 1888? Looks like someone took a Glock 17 and popped her....lol

That was my first thought when I saw the coin. I don't think so, though -- the inside of the hole is too irregular. I'll try to get a reverse shot and post it a bit later. Based on the file marks and so forth, though, somebody had a lot of frustrations to take out on this coin, and a lot of time to do it. :(

A real shame, too -- it looks like it was in high VF or maybe even EF when they got to it. Of course, if they hadn't gotten to it, it probably would have kept circulating until it was yet another dateless example.

I just found a 1662 small 2 mass oak tree coin metal detecting and I scratch the dam thing with my shovel I just about cried when I was told it was about a 1500 scratch. The scratch is on the s. Not to good of a pic.
