1984 Cent with missing copper plating (and humorous original contemporary dealer holder). The luster and toning are also nice. 50¢ Lovely original purple and lavendar toning. It is much nicer in hand. $18
There is no coppery red. It is very "washed-out" in color. I can't think of a way to cause a modern cent to look like that while still keep its full luster.
Bought for $30 as a gamble with horrible scan pics, sold for $130 a few hours after it came in the mail
Obviously not to the buyer that Chris sold it to... He wasn't trying to sell it to you. I think it was a great buy and a gamble that paid off.
That's why I said IMO. Value is always subjective as to what someone would pay. I would only pay $20, so that is what it is worth to me. I'm glad you found a buyer willing to shell out that kind of money.
Not my personal cup o' tea, but I could see why someone might take a chance on it. Is it worth $130? Yes, because someone was willing to pay $130. I will join you in celebration and look forward to seeing what two other coins you post here with the proceeds FWIW - I will be posting something fun here mid-next week (assuming I get the coin pictured.) Gonna be good.
Rescued from the junk silver bin today: (Interested to hear what you think this 1935 D Washington Quarter would grade - not going to send it to a TPG, just checking my grading.)
That '35-D Washington Quarter is nice and flashy!! It looks like it could go AU-53 to AU-55. Unfortunately, it looks like it spent a lot of time sliding around in a box rubbing the highest points.
What’s odd is that those HUGE patches of wear that you see on his cheek are 95% “the light catching something you can’t see in hand in an odd way.” Looks like a completely different coin. Probably should have taken a different (and more representative image of the coin) but I was in a rush to get out the door.
