What’s even more amazing is that he looked it up before he priced it. He must have looked on the wrong line or something
That's beautiful. I do have to wonder, though, whether that rub over Liberty's ear came from sliding back and forth across the counter at the WBG. I have nightmares about the way people treat coins at my local pawn shops. I tried to get on the good side of my local WBG, but they were always pretty reluctant to talk about coins, and they ended up going out of business soon after the 2011 boom petered out.
Went through the older date nickel bin at my LCS looking for some off date Henning nickels. This is all I found. $0.20
Picked this up for $1. Got a lot of fun out of it researching Leslie and his family. Leslie Hawker was a hardware merchant in Shinnston, WV. He was the secretary and treasurer for the Hardware Dealers Association. I found an article he spoke in from 1910 just 2 years before his death. He married Cora Hill and they had two boys - Wayne and Marlin. Unfortunately, Leslie died in an automobile accident in 1912 just 4 years after the encased cent was minted. His wife went on to live until 1967. The coin or token seemed to have been worn as a necklace as its holed. I wonder who it belonged to and what other stories it could tell. It would be neat to be able to put it back into the families hands.
Can't wait to get this in hand........ I just hit the BIN on ebay. I love little things like this and have never saw an ANA one. Neat!
Very nice half dollar score , Bust and Seated halves are a weakness of mine . I've been in love with half dollars since receiving walkers & franklins from grand's and in allowance as a kid .
Digging through some silver dollars and found this. Some SERIOUS die filing was going on with this piece. So much so that the employees completely detached the top curl from the hairline on the forehead. If you have it in hand you can see some major die cracks going through the die scratch fields that I think they were trying to get out. Also there is a huge raised patch coming out of liberty's forehead into the field. Alot going on with this coin. It was difficult trying to capture everything going on in the pictures. Thought it was interesting for $27.50
