Blocked off the afternoon for a trip to the LCS... I really had no clue what I was looking for but ended up digging through the dark recesses of the place since I had time. $37.21 for the lot: To top it off the manager gave me a gift basket full of fruit and nuts as a Christmas gift for being a valued customer throughout the year. 'Twas a good day.
Kim Taylor Reece - "Keka Eleke" Honolulu Mint 1 oz .999 Silver Proof Round #0832 (came with original case and COA) Not sure of the mintage of this piece (it's got a COA stating it's #0832, so at least 832 pieces were made.) Got it at a LCS for $19 - only other example I can find online is listed for $85. The case still has the original price tag from the MCX (Marine Corps Exchange) Kaneohe Bay (Hawaii) for $35.00 - on top of a MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) bar code. To be honest, it kind of bugs me (I hate price tag stickers, especially the ones that don't come off easily) but I think I'll keep it on there as provenance. I also have to admit - the artist's photography and bronze sculpture work is very high quality...but this likeness is a little zombie-esque. Or maybe it's just the way the light reflects over her cheekbones.
Happy New Year @stldanceartist !!! I hope you had a great holiday season and score lots of cherrypicks this year! Zombie or not, Lady Liberty's still quite cute imo. Maybe she just didn't want to wear makeup to the hula dance..... I think the military and MWR price tag adds fantastic provenance, and I would leave it as well!
Thanks, John! Technically, this was my second cherrypick of the year - but only by a few moments. I picked a 1972 J German 10 Mark (.3114 oz ASW) out of the "5 for $1" bin along with two toned 2010 Memorial Cents.
Expecting nothing special from this latest lot, but I only got a bit more than halfway through counting it up before I stopped to hit Buy It Now. $42.98 shipped. Seller's pic: I count $6.60 FV in 90% small change, plus one 40% half and the 1924 Peace dollar. At the price, I won't even quibble about the SLQ being dateless. This is one of those sellers that lists an extremely wide variety of collectibles, doesn't appear to specialize in coins, and lists coins infrequently. In fact, the coins are so infrequent that it's kind of pointless to "follow" the seller, because when he does list coins that are worthwhile, someone will snag them long before I get any notification. It's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
