Very cool and he's a lucky kid to have started a 7070 at his age and with your help. I hope he gets a life time of enjoyment out of it. Wished I'd started one at his age. Please tell him I said to keep up the good work and that goes for the other set as well.
He’s made great progress on it so far. Most of what’s left to fill are the high dollar coins but he does still need some commeratives and some half cents. The nice thing is, he isn’t too worried about condition. He’s perfectly happy in the f12 neighborhood. The seated/capped/trade dollars will have to wait until he has some real money.
You know I'm sure he will get some help along the way at Christmas and his Birthday. I just love when kids so young have a goal that early.
I paid 22 DM for the 1921-D dim. That would be about about $30 today. It has some problems - nicks and scratches. The 1932-S quarter was more expensive; I paid 32 Euros for that one (about 40$)
I could be wrong, but the quarter looks cleaned. Even so, I think you might’ve gotten a good deal. Shame the dime was scratched.
EF/AU 1851 Half Cent: $50 1803 S-NC-1 (MY FIRST NC!!!): $45 1800, 80/79 S-192: $20 AU 1853 Large Cent: $47 All of these were under $50. All but 6 were $5 each.
CRAZY NICE BU 1944 D FB Merc: $30 1936 Half Dollar DDO: Melt Very nice 1964 BU half dollar: melt From the same dealer I got about a dozen AU/BU 1964 Half Dollar DDOs
Fortunately for him, the prices for seated dollars are dropping. I could not touch a problem-free AG/G for less than $200 a decade ago. Now they are about $100-150 and nice VFs can be had for less than $400. I just got an EF/AU details dollar for $250. The same for trade dollars as well. A nice, original, problem-free VF trade dollar can be had for $120-150 fairly easily. From what I have seen at coin shows, the dealers have not caught this trend yet.
Noticed in last week's CNG auction this very small Larissa-Horseman for $45. Nobody had made a bid and I thought what a pity, no one is bidding on her and I don't have a Larissa coin. I won the bid and Larissa has now a new home (she is supposed to arrive tomorrow - this is the sellers picture). Hope there is nothing wrong with her - she is only 0.94 g and 12 mm.
