There are a lot of collectors like me with tight budget's. Because of this, most of my purchases are for coins that I can buy for less than $50.00. Don't let the $50.00 mark keep you down, with some hunting and a little knowledge, you can make some great buys for less than $50.00. With that in mind, let's see where this thread can go and add to it as you make more picks. Maybe this will inspire other's like me with small budgets to get out there and find some great stuff. The $50.00 is the purchase price only, don't factor in shipping. The purchases can be old or new, from a B&M or internet sight, Pawn Shop or garage sale but they have to be something that YOU bought. So dig around and post them here. I'll start it off with my most recent arrival. I'll add more as the thread grow's, I have a lot...
All right, here's four of mine... Are you ready? Would you believe $20? I was at a coin show and asked a dealer for a cheap bust half. He found this 1836 and originally had it priced at $55, he lowered it all the way to $20 because I was a YN!
Paid $22 for this one. Even though it's a problem coin, with a mintage of 161000 I like it. When I bought this from my LCS (surprised they even had one) I showed him the mintage for this coin and he jokingly said he had to change the price! When I paid him with a roll of small dollars, he said "How many billions of these?" It was a fun day at the LCS that day.
1852-O half dime. A mintage of 260000, but the real kicker is the PCGS survival estimate at only 200! For a coin this great, would you believe $36?
This last one was minted outside of the United States, but because it's Spanish, it could have circulated in Colonial America and been brought back to Spain. It's a 1738 half reale. It was only about $28 including shipping from Portugal!
The dealer thought that those marks on the obverse were damage, but in reality they are rare and very valuable clash marks.
