@Mainebill Details, Spot Removed. Someone really dug into this coin, I guess the spot was more than skin deep. Its too bad, the detail on the reverse is great otherwise.
I love Trade Dollars, but as a new collector of numismatics, the Trade Dollars are A.) Expensive and B.) Confusing. With so few dates, even lesser grade coins are expensive. I don't care for anything below MS, so what would be the cheapest MS Trade Dollar to get?
The 77 is reasonable, but if you are new to collecting, be very careful. Trade dollars may be the most counterfeited coin of all time, and some of them are very well made. I've been collecting for thirty years and can be fooled by them. I hate to say it as a raw coin guy, but buy certified only before you learn much more about the series.
I feel the 78-s is the most common any of the San Francisco mints from 76-78 and or a 76 or 77 Philadelphia would probably be the cheapest in unc. I feel the au grades are the way to go tho they have a ton of eye appeal and luster yet are reasonable there's a huge jump from au-ms and an even bigger one from ms to proof
agree with Mainebill on the least expensive trade dollars that Au with original skin is the way to go. Here is my 73-cc which clearly has had a bath and I think was netted from xf to vf as a result. (love your 73-p, geekpryde, so tough to find them unmolested like that!!) oh, this one is also a minor variety with 2 digits tucked away in the dentils.
