I always have a fear/desire to get a star from the ATM. Desire because I love getting stars and fear that I may drain my bank account getting more money out of the ATM!
I know the feeling! A while ago, I thought I'd start going IN the bank instead of through the ATM. I ended up with this http://www.cointalk.com/t193643-10/#post1313296 Best laid plans... Thanks for the comments, Dr! -L
These aren't circulation finds, but they are finds since they didn't just materialize before my eyes. Never mind the black spots, they are on the glass not the notes.
I got this one a couple of days ago from the drive trough at McDonald's. it's from a run of well over a million so maybe I should have spent it on a burger. LOL
I have about a thousand dollars in various star notes in my drawer at work, would they be worthwhile to swap out? 7 of them are $100 stars.
I collect all stars, so most of the time I always say yes. With $100 notes though, I would check on condiiton and year first. Also, see what the run is from this website. The lower the run, the more rare they are. http://mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/
F 00034567 * 2003A has a rip, :'( that is one of the 8 star notes that i have kept. I found a $10 star note but had to spend it because it didnt have a serial number worth mentioning lol
Found a very common Series 1999 Philly star today, in a half strap ($50) of $1's. Serial: C 15193705 *. Condtion is nothing write home about. Typical worn, older note that you would find in circulation. However, before finding it, I had no '99 stars, so I'll keep it around.
I have gotten them at some atm, but most from just talking to the bank employees. Just ask them, to look and put them aside, no matter the size. Then when you go back take them all, if you can. Later spend the ones you do not think will go up in vale later. Give the employee something, like pay for lunch. Or,give them a old coin. :hail::hail: Good luck.
Last night, I stopped at Dunkin Donuts, to get a hot chocolate. Got two $1's back in change, and one of them was a Series 2006 Cleveland star note (640K run). There is a little bit of wear on Washington's portrait, but other than that, the note is pretty solid. If anybody would like to see a photo, just say the word, and I'll post one.
Is there some site that shows what the lowest serial number star note for a particular series is? I have seen some low serials posted on here, but nothing compares to the $20 I have at home (pic to be posted tonight). I am curious if mine is about as low as anyone has ever seen? BTW, I got it in change for a $100 when going through a McDonald's a few years ago.
I've seen serial 1 on Ebay plenty of times. Not sure if anyone here has pulled one out of circulation. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fr-1850-192...ltDomain_0&hash=item2eac1f0d27#ht_2937wt_1165
Here is the one I was talking about. Like I said, I got this in change at a McDonald's a couple years ago. I think it is pretty awesome!!
List of current circ star notes at work: 2006 $5 IF00006722* 2004A $10 GG00380198* 2006 $10 IG00404987* 2004A $20 GB05147495* 2006 $20 IG04321917* 2009 $20 JB01310326* 2004 $50 EK01282893* 2006 $100 HB16176662* 2003A $100 FB06593190* 2006 $100 HL29657730*
Short run $50* and a question. I recently found this note. It's from a short run of 320K but has been stapled to something in the past . Holes appear at the top left just below the serial number. My question to you fine folks here is this. Do the holes automatically drop this to a grade of "fine" and if so, does that make this a spender? Thanks in advance! I've been lurking for a bit trying to better understand the nuances of collecting paper money. Thanks to the most active members and all the pictures that are shared :thumb:, I like to think I'm learning a-lot.
