I purchased this Seleucid coin several months ago (already slabbed). The NGC label indicates "marks." I'd like to hear opinions about the possible significance of this notation. There are 3 equal distance claw like marks (short grooves) at 12 o'clock on the obverse side. Are these the result of a jewelry mounting procedure or are they from an ancient coin tracking effort?
As far as I am aware the only Seleucid 'marks' are the anchor punches which are commonly seen. I would guess yours was not purposely done for the same reason.
Congrats beautifull Tet ! imho these tiny marks are insignificant , perhaps testmarks to check for solid silver. I dont agree with the 3/5 surface , should be at least 4/5 Here's mine:

R: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ ΕΠIΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦIΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ. Zeus seated left with Nike and sceptre: Control: monogram. SNG Israel 2799. Condition: Very fine. Weight: 15.7g. Diameter: 26 mm.
