Nice pickup Bill, solid EF and great crust, nicely struck too. Couldn't do better for type! Probably no more than 500 exist in all grades.
geekpryde, I really like that Circam look on old silver. usc96 that is a satiny stunner! It is likely one of the 3000 or so MS examples in the 1962-64 Treasury release, which also included about 6000 1860-O. Beautiful luster.
I mentioned earlier that I wasn't totally happy with my 1842, so now I have this one (from Gene Bruder) which I really like. tilted in the light it has some nice blue and gold highlights. There is a dark planchet streak across the top of Liberty's head, not a scratch.
The reverse is more of an even gray. As I see no signs of it being cleaned, I think the coin was kept in an old style coin board for many years. NGC graded it XF45, I like it as a 40 myself.
thanks Vic! I really like your coin. I don't find the scratch too distracting, more important to me is that both Liberty and the eagle are quite clean for an issue known for severe bagginess.
Cool gift. I'd rather have that than a watch, too! Mat's '72 looks to have very nice surfaces and patina.
Still Have this one as my only example. Had this one for a few years but ended up selling for about $50 less than I paid originally. Looking for a Certified replacement.
I think I remember that post. Didn't he scratch up the slab with his keys? Good thing for TPG hard plastic!
Yep, he apparently carried it around for a couple of days in his pocket because he didn't realize that I was out of town for a trade show. I haven't put it in a new slab yet, but it really needs to be changed so I can get an image without all of the obverse scratches. BTW, I looked through your CAC type set, and that is a magnificent collection.
