A few months ago, I posted a thread about how to describe a pedigree. Did anyone actually start using those guidelines? If so, or if you want to try, post one of your pedigreed coins here. I'll share with you my most extensive provenance: THESSALY, The Oitaioi. Circa 167-146 BC. AR Hemidrachm (15mm, 2.30 g, 1h) Lion’s head left, spear in its jaws OITAI downward to right, ΩN downward to left, Herakles standing facing, holding club in both hands Valassiadis 9; BCD Thessaly II 494 (same obverse die) Ex BCD Collection (Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 290), lot 57; Peus 384 (2 November 2005), lot 199; Vinchon (20 May 1959), lot 483; M. Ratto 11 (16 May 1935), lot 239; R. Ratto (4 April 1927), lot 1023; Naville-Ars Classica V (18 June 1923), lot 1764
I hope you don't mind this photo. It is a US no-stars dime from Eliasberg. :smile I don't have any ancient coins to contribute.
Despite it's youthful, mirror like surfaces and plastic coffin, that's still a nice coin. Care to describe the sale pedigree?
I paid attention to your earlier thread. Did I do this one correctly? ATTICA, Athens, AR Tetradrachm. I only have the date purchased & price recorded. I cannot remember the auction house without going through a bunch of receipts. If it were Teletrade Auction 999 lot #2560 on June, 11, 2008 then I suspect the pedigree would be something simple like this: Ex Eliasberg Estate, (Teletrade Auction #999, June 11, 2008), lot 2560.
I bet you could chase down a pedigree before 2008, if you had access to the old catalogues. It had to have gone somewhere between Eliasberg and Teletrade!
I have a few with a short provenance, and I'm unsure how to dig up any more information/history. However, here is one: ARCADIA MEGALOPOLIS AR Triobol OBV: Laureate head of Zeus left REV: Pan seated left, holding lagobolon; eagle on knee, monogram before, D/L behind Stuck at Megalopolis, 182-168 BC 2.160g, 14mm Dengate 13 Ex Superior, 30 May 1995, lot 7462 (Lewis Egnew Collection)
Ex Lewis L. Egnew Collection (Superior, 30 May 1995), lot 7462. Your first step in researching a pedigree should be to search for recent auction appearances. This is best done on CoinArchives Pro, as it has many more auctions represented than the free ACSearch. Next, check in major sales of this material. I would bet anything your coin is from the BCD Collection, but definitely from one of the many unillustrated group lots or private sales. Do you have a small, round ticket with it?

I may have done you one better: I believe this is the same coin, the only 1837 10C Small Date listed in Eliasberg's retired registry set. It has an estimated grade of AU58 although it is listed here as an AU55: http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/Major_collections/Eliasberg.htm "Edouard Frossard's New Jersey Collection sales, March 8-9, 1898; J.M. Clapp, Clapp estate, 1942 to Louis Eliasberg, Sr.; Louis Eliasberg Sale, May 20-22, 1996, Bowers and Merena;" It would be worth finding a catalog to match the plates if they have it photographed but I think you've got a good shot at an 1898 provenance.
