You have to give them a little break here. They grew up in an era of English farthings, shillings, pence and pounds or worse yet, Spanish doubloons and pieces of 8. Cents were a brand new concept and and not second nature like it is today. While this would have been the tenth year of the cent, very few of those early cents were actually circulating in comparison with the aforementioned coins. Even today, we still mistakenly call the cent a penny.
LoL. I am jealous. Not only is yours in much better condition than mine, but that fraction value... Didn't they have coin inspectors at the mint back then? Genuine, page 101 of Redbook. Nice.
Nice rarity with even more history than the 1652 dated issues. Congrats on the stellar recovery. For personal value, my MD finds outweigh anything I buy. HH! Herbie.
My oldest is an 1811 O104a half dollar. I need to take a better picture of the reverse, the color is off.
My oldest is a large cent somewhere between 1800 and 1808. It has been holed at the top and gouged terribly at the date. For $1, I think I did alright.
If we are going to be fussy about the "United" part of U.S., then this is my oldest right now: I do have older Colonials.
Great coins everyone! Especially the old coppers! Here is my oldest American: Rosa Americana And here is my oldest official USA And my oldest US Federal issue 1795 Lettered Edge
