Hey everyone. I'm not sure if this sort of thread has been created already, but I'm interested to see what will be posted. You heard the question, what's the oldest coin you've ever found in circulation? By "circulation" I mean anything in pocket change or roll hunting; any denomination, etc. For me it would be a 1928 Lincoln cent I received in some change. Not particularly impressive, I know, but it was still exciting for me. How about you!?
In circulation, 1912 lincoln cent. But about 15 years ago when I was in first grade I found a 1903 ihc in the school yard. Not sure what I did with it or even if it was real which is why I'm going with the lincoln cent.
My oldest find was a 1910 wheat penny that I got from CRHing. It was pretty exciting in the moment, but now I look back and laugh
1909 Cent. Grandfather had a large thing of change he said I could go through, and keep whatever I liked.
I got a 1901 Indian Head Cent in change here in SoCal around 8 years ago or so. Also got a 1907 Indian Head Cent in change around a year or two later. :thumb:
This is always fun. Dollars - 1879 Morgan Halves - 1858 1 Florin. As for actual halves, it would be a 1908 Barber half. Quarters - '17 SLQ. Dimes - 1883 Swiss 5 rappen. An actual dime? 1912 Barber. Nickels - 1883 No Cents. Cents - 1886(IIRC) IHC.
Dollars - 1897 Morgan Halves - 1942 Walker Quarters - Dateless SLQ. Dimes - 1942 Merc Nickels - 1890 Liberty Cents - 1882 IHC, just last week. Previous record was 1889 IHC
This is awesome, you guys! You make me jealous, but I haven't been collecting very long, and I've got plenty of time ahead of me. Keep them coming!
1907 Indian Head Cent Saw it in the guy's hand as he reached for it to spend it. Lucky.. as there were several other pennies he could have chosen. I was so excited when he was too ignorant to realize what it was!
