I recently picked this up, mostly because I had never seen one in person. Vietnam, Gold Wafer Money, Circa 1960s Kim-Thanh Gold Leaves, AU/UNC, Kim Thanh issue. Weight: 14.5gms. Slightly wrinkled, as made. These gold sheets were used as evacuation money by Vietnamese refugees fleeing the country during wartime in the 1960's.
Old gold is so much nicer then newer coinage. The apex of coin making happened in the period 1640-1799/ here is one of mine. From the Abbey of St. Gallen 1773

Just pulled the trigger on this one from the recently posted Harlan Berk Bid/Buy sale. It's got some issue but, well, so do I. It was a listed low enough that I didn't think long about it. German States, Mainz, ND Gulden, VF, Mainz / Mayence. Achbishop Konrad III von Dhaun 1419-1434. Goldgulden ND (1428-1434). Bingen mint. With star on obverse right field. Friedberg-1621.
