Just picked this up in Stacks auction. Super happy with what it hammered at, feel great that this was a very nice buy. Tougher date for the later dates of the $5 lib series, only 13 higher at PCGS. I hope the color and luster is as nice as I'm expecting in hand. That is everything for me with gold coins, contact marks are way less a concern if the color/luster is great.
Nice! Which other 4 type coins are you including in your set above the 8 obvious ones? The $2.50 and $5 Classic Head + $1 + $3? All 3 $1 types + $3?
Yes , I am working on the 12 piece gold set at PCGS. Had it finished a couple of years ago then sold it to get something else.
I also have a pcgs registry set but I just bought a $1 and $3 is ngc holders. Too bad they don’t accept ngc anymore
I'm also working towards this 12 piece set now as opposed to the 8 piece set I originally was targeting. The $1 and $3 pieces are too good to leave out. Checked off these 2 coins recently.
Thanks! And yes I've been after a 32 specifically because it was such an interesting time for gold coins. They minted 4 million of these and then instantly said never mind give us those back please. Also helps for this series that it's one of if not the most common date. Still not cheap though and honestly I think overpriced currently. Mine is a 64+ CAC and price doubles in 65 and it doesn't make sense to me at all since the population of 65s and higher is really high relative to other gold coins. I'll take the coin that's probably one hit away from 65 for half price any day, especially with nice color like this one.
