Post-Script: I also like US Peace Dollars - and would want, someday, to gather a collection thereof ...
I'm not as focussed on any one series , as I had been 30 years ago . All of my holding's have been liquidated do to Health reasons. Today , I have some fun with the hobby , occasional buying/selling and trading with whatever hits my fancy and possible for my purse . While those previous assets are no longer with me, I do maintain a desirable Numismatic Library . Reading is FUN !
^^ This. If I can continue to learn without buying another coin I might, but buying the coins gives me the "kick in the rear" to learn more about them. Also maybe buy another 100 books on ancient coins, (400 is not nearly enough lol).
I'm not a very organized collector. I'm not exactly an impulse buyer but I'm always ready for a good deal. I do have a few goals though. Short: Own a denomination (not including gold) type set: 20 cent and half cent missing; Long: 1800's type set Very long: Cents 1857-current (1934-current complete but updated to MS coins)
Simple 1955 DDO in change. I'm simple and just like stuff that comes my way. If I win the lotto may try to buy some key Lincolns to fill in the holes, just because. But I try not to purchase special stuff. Just find it or preserve the old family stuff.
Short term since I a newbie learn the basics. Longer term a nice set of Peace dollars, after that a new set of goals
1. Have a good time. 2. Work on buffalos, walkers, commem's 3. Stay in the vicinity of my coin budget. 4. See Goal number 1.:thumb:
Hello everyone, Nice post! A few years ago I sold most of my collection and have not been able to fully get back into it, until recently. Currently i am completing my Jefferson Nickels in ms65 and above. After that I want to work on the Buffalo series. These two I did sell off. After that i want to get a ms65 set together for Roosevelt's. None of these three will be to expensizes, with the exceptions of the buffalos. Long term i want to upgrade my Large cents and fill in some of the holes I have. Also upgrade my completed Mercury Dime collection as well. Thanks for the post! Regards, Stan
Complete my set of gem silver washies, business strikes and proofs, rainbow toned. I'm about 3/4 of the way there but its now a slow pick but I still upgrade when a beauty comes along.
Matte Proof Lincoln cent in at least PF-63 and above. 1909-S VDB in at least EF-45. 1916-D Mercury dime in at least G-4. Saint Gaudens Double Eagle in at least MS-63. Those are my goals for now. I know, they are all pretty rare and expensive. But I'll hopefully complete these goals sooner or later.
3 YEARS 1. COMPLETE MY JEFFERSON NICKEL SET 2. COMPLETE MY ROOSEVELT DIME SET 3. PURCHASE A CERTIFIED INDIAN 2.5 GOLD 4. COMPLETE MY KENNEDY AND FRANKLIN HALF DOLLAR SETS. 5. TALK MY FRIEND INTO SELLING ME HIS CURRENCY COLLLECTION. 6. OWN A PCGS CERTIFIED 1909s VDB 7. OWN A PCGS CERTIFIED 1916 D MERCURY DIME
I will be honest, when I first opened the thread, I didn't think it was interesting. HOWEVER, after reading the posts, it is very interesting...funny how that happens. My goals would be: Short Term - complete my NGC MS67+ for business and PF70 for proofs birthyear sets for my sons (2002 and 2004) minus the gold for now. At the point where I have some nickles and dimes that are out of my price range. - start my 7070 type set when my book arrives...really looking forward to this. My first folder. - find a nice Morgan I like and buy it. - keep looking for state quarters in circ with my boys to fill their picture books. Hope they pick up the hobby someday. Long Term - buy the 2002 and 2004 gold for my sons' sets.
