Today is very special as I had one of these years ago....and had to let it go...even through it was a hard thing to do as a Variety Nickel collector. As I have every major Jefferson variety there is except this one until today. I received an offer very fair from a doctor in Florida for my last one...needed the money so I let her go. Just as the 1955 DDO is to the Lincoln collectors this variety is to me. A short note to end this story is that the grade I sold back 8 to 10 years ago went down by 1/2 retail value.
Here's a few until I can get some dirt and grime off the others. The toning was hard to photograph and is much sharper in person. Nice die crack going through the reverse of the S on the 1944-S.
I got this from the same dealer as the 1935 above, and the dealer's inventory number is just one higher on this one. I wonder if they both came from a single collection? I can imagine a much larger set carefully constructed by someone unknown, and now I can benefit from the care they took.
