I'll need to take a closer look at; Didn't think it was when I bought it but didn't have a loupe with me.
One more small addition before the year ends, 1911 'Godless' Ten Cent. Graded AU53 though I think it's closer to XF45 but the plastic tomb is so scuffed it's a bit hard to tell...
Can anyone give me some information on this 5 cent Canadian? I know it's 21 leaves , and I believe #3 Obv. any varieties? Wide Date ?
Yes on the obverse #3. Not familiar with varieties on this one but if this web site is correct your's looks like the wide: http://www.5centscanada.ca/search/label/1880H
The 1859 LC above is not brass. It has been harshly chemically cleaned and it turns the bronze all kinds of odd colors. Any number of under-the-kitchen-counter cleaners will do the same thing.
Go to the CCF site (Coin Community) and look for the 1929 cent threads .. lots of discussions on hi & low 9's
Not my coin Bill the OP coins the 1922 not the 1929. he has 2 of them the loop on the 19 is large on 1 and smaller on the other. I just wondered if the 1922 cent has them as varieties?. I have haxby's book but there isn't anything in there mentioning them
For the 1922's, they look the same size to me .. just that one is infinitely more worn than the other. The design elements (including the date) are tapered in that they are smaller/thinner on the top and widening toward the bottom where it emerges from the field. As the coin wears, the lettering and date will appear to get thicker/larger. The font and size are the same when originally struck but get "fatter" as it wears down.
Yes I agree there will be some enlargening of the lettering and numbers but to this degree? Also some elements of the leaves are different and following the the premise of enlagening would the right hand top stem be wider and longer and not short and stubby?
