Got this one yesterday also. I think this is a good example of the "Blakesley Effect" This coin also has some stuff going on at both 90 degrees of clip. More pronounced on the reverse.
Picked up this one, given the size of the denticles, it is likely a first strike reverse brockage. Rare to see a George VI brockage in silver...
Thanks Mat. I like them alot. I helped a friend / dealer sort some coins he bought, and he treats me good on prices. The "61" cent was a throw in.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! Picked this up a little while ago, an 1899 Newfoundland Twenty Cent, hooked 9 variety The regular 1899
I was shopping yesterday on ebay looking for some sales and I came across these 2 for 35% off http://www.ebay.com/itm/361731411309?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT http://www.ebay.com/itm/361761591487?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT So lets get this started, first one is a 1901 Re-Punch on the Profile, nice when you have the books on hand for checking, bad images, but you can see the indents in her face . When I receive the coin, I'll go through the Charlton 64th Edition and match it up and take new images of everything . Next we have a 1909 round leaves with some nice color too . Wish it was the bow-tie variety ..
I have exactly the same situation on this 1980 cent. I saw it only after taking the picture, otherwise I would have taken it out of the 2X2. Look to the left of the date and right of the KG (more difficult to see). If the metal sheet didn't move forward quickly enough, then it is possible that up to three clips could happen, as in your and my specimen.
Hello Guy. I think you are saying that the two small defects at 90 degrees of the clip are small clips themselves. this makes cents as yours are not at 90 degrees. I had not even thought of that.
Yes, I think they have to be clips as well, and it would make perfect sense given the "hive" pattern in which the blanks are punched. By the way, mine too has the Blakesley effect at the top. I got it in my change many years ago...
According to the 64th Edition of the Charlton, this coin can be found on p.407, Coin 21 ( Double Punch, Normal Date ) . Obverse is OF2 and the Reverse is RF8 . Marker for Reverse: Re-engraved Bough With One Break .
