For those of you who collect and love Canadian coins, a bit of news today: A fellow Nova Scotian, Mount Allison alumni, world class artist, and designer of Canada's most beautiful coins (1967 Centennial series), has passed at the age of 92. I got to meet him once, when he visited Mount Allison in the early 1990s. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2013/07/16/ns-alex-colville-dies.html
Well, the man did beautiful work and left a lasting legacy! I love the Centennial coins! Best Regards, George
Their one set I have not seen. The Canadian quarters ,I thought there was a set made like the US state quarters.like this one.
2013 Canada Quarter circulation set from the mint (5 of each type or 10 coins for $2.50; one of the few times I'm breaking even instead of losing money!!)
50c Canada 1945 MS63 PCGS I haven't posted in a while (where did everybody go?) so thought I would continue with the half dollars where I left off. This 1945 Canadian half was struck in the amount of a bit less than 2 million coins. I like the nice golden rim toning on this one. Haxby prices this at $200, CCN Trends at $100, and CoinsandCanada.com at $97. All I have to say is, try finding one this nice for under 100 bucks! Enjoy! PS Got a Big New Fish in the Canadian Gold department over the weekend. More on that in the Fullness of Time. Spicy stuff! Best Regards, George
George => I'm lovin' the new 50 cent piece => man, they're all classics, eh? (ya gotta love the 50 cent pieces!!)
50c Canada 1947 Curved 7 Right MS63 PCGS They made both the 1947 and the 1947 Maple Leaf halves in two styles, Curved 7 Right and Straight 7 Left, although various other terms are used. Four different varieties for the year. This is a really pretty, undergraded IMHO 1947 Curved 7 Right MS63 PCGS coin. Haxby prices this at $340, CCN Trends at $400, CoinsandCanada.com at $350. Enjoy! Best Regards, George
50c Canada 1947 Maple Leaf Curved Right 7 ENORMOUS KEY COIN VF35 PCGS So. Sharing continues. Today it's time for one of the rarest coins in our collection, a 1947 Maple Leaf Canadian half with the Curved Right 7. The Maple Leaf and non-Maple Leaf half dollars each had two styles to the 7, for four different varieties in all. The Curved Right 7 pieces were all struck from a single die, apparently, and it is a huge KEY coin in the Canadian series. (The Curved Left 7 pieces are also called Straight 7 or Tall 7; sometimes you see these abbreviated as C7L and C7R). The only other Canadian coins I have that are as rare or rarer are the 1913-C sovereign (which I just repurchased, MS63 PCGS) and the 1880 Newfoundland two dollar gold in MS61 PCGS. So. I took this photo a few months ago and need to reshoot it. The color is a tad off; the surfaces are silver-gray and show some remaining mint luster peeking out around the device edges on each side. Haxby (2012) values this at $3200, CCN Trends at $3350, and CoinsandCanada.com at $3450. Enjoy! Best Regards, George
