George, Being from Canada I am always looking for certain Canadian coins. Your 1894 Newfoundland coin is one of the nicest of that type I have ever seen. Thanks for posting It so we all can see it, the half dime is also a looker.....Alan
Another Newfie Five Center, 1941-C MS65 PCGS Not quite as pretty toning on this piece but still quite attractive in hand. The mintage of the 1941-C was the largest of the George VI Newfoundland silver half dimes, at 612,000 pieces. Haxby lists Gems at $300, CCN Trends lists them at $450. Enjoy! Best Regards, :hail: George 1941-C Newfoundland Five Cent MS65 PCGS
Another Newfoundland Coin. 1880 Newfie Large Cent Oval 0, XF40 PCGS, Key Date Since we are in Newfoundland, here is another Newfie. The 1880 large cents were struck in the amount of 400,000 coins, largest quantity for the Victoria series of 1865-1896 (the smallest yearly total was the 1885 at 40,000 pieces). The 1880 cents come in three varieties. The two Round 0 (in the date) varieties are Round 0, Level, and Round 0, Low. The Round 0, Low is a noted rarity in the higher Mint State grades but in circulated grades there is only slight differentiation between the prices of the two Round 0 variants until AU or so. The Oval 0 variety is the third and last variety for 1880, very rare in any grade. Clearly only a small, small fraction of the mintage had the Oval 0 feature, probably no more than 15,000 coins or so. Haxby lists a Very Good 8 coin at $140 and CCN Trends lists it at $250. This XF40 PCGS-certified example is another piece I bought last fall and only recently photographed. I personally think it is a Choice XF but am quite happy with its appearance regardless! PCGS has graded precisely four Mint State examples of the Oval 0: one in MS63 Brown, one in 64 Red Brown, and two (or the same piece twice) in MS65 Red Brown; these Red Brown Mint State coins are surely incredible pieces and almost certainly tightly held in strong hands. Our "XF40" shows a good deal of red remaining, and a wealth of detail and eye appeal for the grade. PCGS shows 3 in XF40 with 10 finer, ranging up to the MS63 Brown already mentioned. Haxby lists this grade at $875; CCN Trends lists it at $1,000. Enjoy! Best Regards, :hail: George 1880 Newfie Large Cent Oval 0, XF40 PCGS, Key Date
Here's the price guide you should be using http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices-nfld.php?canadian_coins=1-cent-1865-1947 for Canadian coins, according to the canadian site, its worth 1,200.00 dollars

Ah, I see Rick, the individual dates are hotlinked and you click on those to see more detail and grades-prices. Thanks so much, this is incredibly useful. It also makes me think I need to send that 1880 Newfie 2 Dollar Gold in MS61 PCGS back to see if it comes back as MS62, the way I think it is. $24,300! Best Regards, :hail: George
That's a really nice 1880 example George!!:smile Regarding that site, make sure to also check the 'Last update' date listed on the bottom of the individual year's pages, some pages are updated more frequently then others (the minimal silver value is from mid April, so some of the coins are listed a bit high; haven't checked the gold ones) There's also a 'eBay Prices' link where you can search year/denomination & see an average sold price from on eBay (it's about a month & half old right now, and it only pulls certified coins). I picked up my first Newfoundland coin the other day. I want to create a type set of Newfoundland coins and I figured this is a good one to start with.
That's a great start! Nice original-looking coin with no-problem surfaces! The 1888 is also the lowest-mintage of the Victoria series at only 20,000 coins! Great pickup! Notice also that the obverse design is somewhat different from the other Newfie denominations and was not used anywhere else (per Haxby). Best Regards, :hail: George
