I think she attempted to make an oriental, or flatter face. It would have been more effective if attention was given to the illusion of depth, although there was always a cartoon quality to the obverse design. The interesting thing is that the reverse might well have been a relative masterpiece, but for political reasons they ditched the eagle and maintained the obverse.

Would like to share these great men, the commemorative Mahatla Gandhi and circulated Nelson Mandela 2000 and 2008 90th Birthday 5 rand coin from South Africa. The R5 rand coins are both graded MS67 and rare in this condition.

I'm not found of Elizabeth or Beatrice, Washington or Jefferson either. At least with Beatrice they try to do something interesting.

The Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek Kruger pound I

The precursor of what is known today as the Kruger Rand. From our family collection,

1892 President Paul Kruger pond double shaft on the wagon, and 1893 and 1894 single shaft

I'm dying here.. looking at all of these pictures makes me want to hunt all of you down, sneak into your homes at night with a toothbrush and some cleaning supplies, and clean all of your dirty coins! I know you'd be mad, but I'd sleep better at night.

One of my favourite proof coins, from the Lasqueti Mint, in British Columbia, Canada. This is a private mint, run by a couple of retired people, whereby these silver coins are accepted as local currency.

I absolutely love this raven (2008 silver proof strike). I should really take a better photo of it, someday...
