Yeah. It looks like cloth tape. The ageing looks right and the pvc on the obv says it was locked in an old flip for a long time. Given what's presented there's no reason not to doubt that someone kept it as a keepsake from a 1950s-70s Vegas trip. Probably won at a slot or table. They probably did it when they got home with the first thing at hand they could stick on it and write on.
...just eBay'ed this scribble/scratch from top to bottom large S reverse...the 8% promo had me spending tonight
Tons of new additions today after trading in some bullion at the LCS. The 1890, 1898, 1899 help chip away at my date set idea I'm working on, the 1886 and 1881 in two of my favorite old holders and the 1885-O was just too good of a deal to pass on. Beautiful 1898-O MS65 in old NGC fatty: Another old fatty, 81-S with some messy toning: 1886 in old ANA holder MS64: 1890-S MS62 Old NGC holder, I think under graded otherwise nicest 62 I've seen. Definitely a good buy for $65 either way tougher date as it goes up MS ladder. 1885-O: And lastly a boring white but flashy 1899-O MS65: ^^^ All of that ended up as an even exchange for 20 silver eagles and a 1/4 gold eagle. Think I prefer my end
64, oh so close! Though I think grade's accurate, may just submit for reconsideration and see if I get lucky. Very nice die polish lines on the reverse.
There are too many nice looking 81-S' out there, every time I say I'm done with them I see a new one I can't pass on, I bet I'll have 50 of them this time next year Also based on pictures I think the 79-S has a legit shot at 64 but don't think it's worth the time, effort or money to try
A fun one to twirl around in the light. Pictures make it seem dull, it's full of life and has some wild colors all over the place. Love this coin especially at $90
This one's on it's way to CAC right now. I don't know how it has stayed in it's 63 holder this long, but it will stay that way for a while. Especially if it get's the GOLD!
