Agreed - CAN be unimportant. The BTW series seemingly went on forever and the values are low, as you state, despite the low mintages towards the end. On the other hand, an issue than I am interested in also went on forever (Texas) and that's going to be expensive to ever complete. The lower mintage MODERN commemoratives usually seem to be worth more - the US Army half is a good example. If you believe in the price guides the Leif Ericson I posted above cost me around $35 plus grading and now is 'worth' $275' - although the e-Bay price is around $200. Police Officers, the 1996 Olympics, etc. all have low relative mintages and higher value. The ones with higher mintages are near bullion value. The 1982 Washington is in my top five of modern halves and is essentially bullion. An exception that stands out is the Buffalo - relatively high mintage and high price. My guess is that it's an excellent and popular design.
Exactamundo........everybody wants one of those, especially me. I missed out with the mint offering because I kept putting off purchasing it. Then, the day I went to buy it, the offering was listed as 'sold out'. Totally blew it........
I had some 2001 Silver Buffalos graded in Oct. Sure wish they could be in the Retro Black Holders, but they said NOT at the present time
Wow John! Nice Buffs. Now we really do need to see more of you around these parts dear fellow. I mean, December to December is rather a long time to take between postings. Welcome back John........
I added this to an order the other day to round the dollar figure out. It was cheap. Now I want to collect half dollar commems. 1986 Statue of Liberty.
2015-S Proof Clad Half Dollar U.S. Marshals Service 225th Anniversary This one doesn't really do it for me. I like the 1986-D SOL better.
Picked this up at the coin show yesterday. Paid less than issue price for it. I love baseball. 2014-D clad issue.
