Im new to all this but I have a few questions and figure this would be a great place to start. A collection of coins was finally past to me which I am giving to my children one day. I collected with my Grandfather when I was a kid but that was it. My biggest question is there are some coins in here that I believe need to be appraised any input see list below
    1916 Dime x3
    1943 Dime x4
    1891-1900 Indian Cent
    1907 V Cents x2
Tons of 1983 Quarters (why would he keep so many)
    Lots of Mint Bi-Cent Quarters
Of course lots of Buffallo Nickels
    Tons of Wheat Cents
Mogans, Peace and lots of Half Dollars.
The list keeps going and Im really overwhelmed with them

Can I get your address and exact GPS location? ;)
But seriously, every '16-D I have seen is no better than Fine condition. The only one I had seen was at coin club when somebody brought their grandparents collection of Mercury dimes and he had an AU '16-D and had all of the dates/mm in UNC condition. Even the 1942/41.

They're high dollar coins. Your mom and pop stores typically won't have them, and unless you live in an area with some exceptionally wealthy people (How many people really have $5-$10k to drop on coin?) you really won't see them much. There's a reason they're so valuable. Check out HA.com if you wanna see some nicer ones, including some MS FB examples.

At the last coin show I attended, the only 16D Mercury dimes I saw on display were slabbed at g8 and lower. Maybe the high grades were out of sight, but I kinda doubt it. Just a scarce coin.

Most of them are in sets and only come out when the collector upgrades or passes away. They're coins that are in high demand and bring over book, if they're accurate for the grade.

Proof mercs seem to come with that like, cloudy look.

You know, it does kinda look like a proof in the pic. It's not, though. Only the photo is PL
