I have a few more in plastic, a micro S in US type set and a roll of junk ones along with this set. Sent from my XT1093 using Tapatalk
I'm glad this old thread was bumped back up for the 100th anniversary. Is Caz still around? Everybody, check out post #2. I've done a lot of intricate pumpkin carving myself but that might be the coolest one I've seen. What a tribute! Great job Caz.
Oops sorry about the Roosevelt. Dave, that's one of Phil's photos. But I never have any luck with axial lighting so I never use it. Here is my photo of that Roosevelt. I won't post anymore Roosies to this thread, I promise.
I think a coin of that quality is forgivable. In your image, I can somewhat discern lighting direction but in Phil's I couldn't. That's why I thought it was axially-lit. Then again, toning helps to mask the directional effect in lighting. Not that it matters much in these cases; I'd be pretty happy with myself if I had produced either.
I know Phil uses a deflector along with the lighting. This probably helps give it an axial effect. This particular coin did all the work itself. It didn't seem to matter where the lights were, it just lit up like a Christmas tree. I actually had to cut back the saturation level in post processing for fear it would look juiced.
