A lot of higher grade 1909 VDB business strikes do have MPL characteristics, when they are really not a Proof. There&#039;s tons of business strikes out there that are very identical to MPL&#039;s. It&#039;s pretty unlikely that you&#039;ve come across an 09 VDB MPL like that, they are incredibly rare in all grades. I have a 1909 VDB cent that looks a lot like an MPL, when it&#039;s only a sharper struck business strike. If you are looking at a 09 VDB MPL, buy one that is already certified. But expect to spend thousands.
